Birthday Cake!

Whilst we're on the subject of birthdays, Stepchild had one so I baked a cake!  Due to the numerous intolerances various people in this family have it's gluten free and vegan.  I got the recipe here.

Birthday Embroidery

Another birthday gift!  I made this (and gifted it) a while back and it was a such a fun, sweet make!

It's redwork back stitched on calico and framed.  There's nothing else I can say about it other than I really enjoyed making it!

Dinosaur

I seem to know a lot fo small people keen on dinos atm!  Still, it made making this birthday present a lot of fun!

I had two requests for this.  Firstly, it had to be a dinosaur and secondly, it had to be pink!  I think I nailed it (lucky for me no specific dinosaur type was named).

 I used this tutorial and made it from pink and white fleece.

It's a very dinky dino!  I really enjoyed making it and I hope the birthday girl enjoyed receiving it!

New Coat!

So, I didn't mean to have multiple weeks away from blogging, but I was so busy sewing I ran out of time for writing!  Must try harder to find the balance again....

Any how, I do at least have a fair few things to show you and some of them have benefited from Katy's excellent photography skills!

So, as the weather is turning cold, I really needed a new coat and as I had some gorgeous English wool left over (from a project I'll show you another day) I turned my head to the thoughts of warm but also sparkly and this is what I made!

The pattern is McCalls 6800 Version B.

The outer fabric is English wool and it's lined in satin. 

I added corset lacing to the back, just because it's a detail I love and I've wanted a coat with it for a while now!  I also added ribbons to the cuffs, collar and hem and buttons, diamantes and butterflies to the lapels.

The buttons are shell and I was so pleased at how well everything co-ordinates!  I bought the coat buttons, corset lacing ribbon and lining fabric and everything else came from my stash so it's been a great stash buster!

 As you can see from my face - I'm quite pleased with this!  And now, for what I think it the first time ever, I leave you with a video!  I advise watching with the sound off (I didn't know Katy was filming or I'd have shut up!)

Photography

I freely admit photography is not one of my better skills and that the photos I use here tend to be rough and ready.  However, just occasionally, I do manage a good picture!

I didn't make anything she's wearing (although I did do her hair!) I just really like this photo!

Rose T-Shirt

After I made my last dress, I found I had just enough fabric to run myself up a t-shirt!

 I am so pleased with this shirt!  I might even like it more than my dress!

 It is, as all my t-shirts are, made using the Alabama Chanin pattern!

 The problem with standing under a hole in a barn door that swallows use to get to their nests is that you get a bit dive bombed by swallows!

For novelty value for you, dear reader, Mr Kit and I took these photo's on a farm whilst we were on holiday.  I got some amazing fabric that I can't wait to show you!

Birthday Gift - Dress

Another birthday gift!  This time for Lilium.  I know her favourite colours and we've been oohing over dresses online a lot recently, so I thought she might like a new dress.

I've used a red floral print t-shirting and a grey accent t-shirting.

 I based it off my ever beloved Alabama Chanin t-shirt pattern then kind of ran with my own ideas.
