Sunflower Dress Mini Me

Clearly, the best way to accessorise your new dress is with an adorable matching small person, right?

Lizard refused to stay still though, so you'll all have to wait for better pictures in the spring when we've planned a photoshoot for both of us!

A Sunflower Dress

I got this fabric ages ago, in May I think!  It was already to warm to contemplate sewing it though, so I tucked it away and let ideas simmer and on Saturday when I wanted a quick project just for me it sprang into mind so I made it into a lovely dress!

I'm not entirely sure what the fabric is, it's lighter than a sweatshirting, but thicker and heavier than a t-shirting!

The bodice is Alabama Chanin and the skirt was drafted by Katy for me some time ago and remains my favourite shape!

It's a lovely warm dress, but it feels so sunshiney with the sunflowers all over it!  I'm in love!

As you can see, it is a dress that encourages spinning!

Frock Coat Mark 2

So, long term readers may think they've seen this before and that would be because, in as much as possible it is identical to a previous frock coat I've made.  It's owner liked it so much he decided he needed two!

It's black cotton velvet, trimmed with green satin ribbon and plastic buttons.  the lining is faux silk.

Given that both he and I need to check carefully to see which is the original I'd say I fulfilled the brief pretty well!

As we are  now reaching the point in the year where I've started work on Christmas gifts, so I may have less to show you for a few weeks, but fear not I'm still crafting!

Seal at the Ballet

There are cuddly toys all over this house and every once in a while Lizard gets really into one as a companion for a specific thing.  Right now it's a seal tsum-tsum of mine which is the only acceptable friend to take to ballet.

Normally Seal wears a 'balletard'  (Lizard's word for it) and practise skirt made of a scrap of Lizard's on kit but as they are about to perform a show and I wanted an evening of making something silly, Seal got a new outfit...

Mr Kit rather rudely (and annoyingly accurately) suggested that Seal now looks like a shuttlecock!

Seal has a white balletard, a white dress net tutu (decorated with silver glitter glue) and a 'halo' donated by Katy Page Designs.  He's now totally ready for show day!

Tiny Ballet Costumes

I've made a few more outfits for my ballet school's Christmas production!

Here is Lizard, kindly modelling them for me!  She doesn't actually get to wear these on Show Day, but she's definitely enjoyed checking on my progress as I sew!

The dress is a modified version of this dress, I drafted my own sleeve pattern and added extra fabric at the sides.

It does up in a cute bow at the back and has elastic gathering the sleeves!

The shorts are this pattern and I've used buttonhole elastic for the waistbands to make them as adjustable as possible.  The original shorts I based this off have elastic gathering the short legs in, but whilst I've left a small gap in the seams in case that's a neccesity, I have currently left them ungathered as I think these look sweeter!

In case you are wondering, Lizard is doing her best ballet moves here, hence the blurriness of all the photos!

A Rare Sighting of Knitting!

Inspired by the cooler weather we've had recently I have once again turned to knitting.  Lizard picked out this super pretty arcylic yarn in Poundland, I found a pattern and away I went!

The pattern is Accidental Girly Mitts and the yarn is Double Knit Essentials.  I think they are so pretty!

I really enjoyed knitting these (so much so that I even bothered trying to match up the stripes!).

The next project on my knitting needles is a cowl in the same yarn.  I'll let you know if I ever finish it!

Fluttershy Bounding

As has been previously mentioned, my Goddaughter had her birthday.  For her party, all her godmothers and her parents were requested to dress up as My Little Ponies.  I was informed I was to be Fluttershy (have I mentioned she has dictator tendencies?).  Given that I own nothing yellow or pink, I set about making a bound outfit!

I made a yellow t-shirting dress, with short sleeves and a circle skirt and a pink bolero.

I added Fluttershy's cutie mark to the skirt (I got the embroidery files from this seller on Etsy)

My bolero has the my little pony wing shape appliqued on to it.

I teamed it with my green petticoat, some pale pink tights and some pink hair clips from Claires and Katy made me Fluttershy Pony Ears to complete the look!

The party was great fun and I'm looking forward to doing it all again next year!

A New Work Bag Birthday Gift

Not every three year olds idea of fun, I grant you, but this sewing bag was well recieved!  My beloved Goddaughter adores playing at sewing and has wanted her own 'work bag' for some time now so I made her one for her birthday!  (Please note this is not something she is allowed without supervision.)

She loves ballet so my choice of embroidery for the front was easy!

Inside I filled it with sewing paraphernalia!  It's roomy enough that she can keep her 'projects' inside the bag and I look forward to helping her sew more in the coming weeks!

Happy Birthday Mogling!  I love you!

Ballet Costumes

My Ballet school is having a show in December and I have done my bit by helping to make some of the costumes!

We made three of these pleated waistband chiffon skirts.

They have a stage satin waistband and poppers to close them.

I can't model them for you as they are far, far too small for me!

Also, chiffon takes a lot of hemming!  Those skirts have 27 metres of hem between them!
